Stunning and Serene
February 14, 2016

We had the most amazing time at Flagstaff and Grand Falls Huts. As first timers we didn't quite know what to expect. Our arrival on the first day was early enough to explore the beautiful expanse of Flagstaff Lake. We felt like were the only two people on earth, walking across the frozen tundra surrounded by exquisite beauty and serenity. It was beyond words. The trail between the two huts was spectacularly beautiful. Challenging enough in spots to get the adrenaline kickstarted , but mostly Zen like skiing along the half frozen river with magical mist rising to the heavens! An experience we will never forget. The huts were warm, welcoming and occupied by interesting, friendly, and communal souls. The staff kept us fat, happy, and content. Our goal is to explore the area in all four seasons.

What Fun
February 2, 2016

This was my husband and my first trip to a hut. We didn't really know what to expect but we figured that we could rough it through just about anything for a night. We continued to be pleasantly surprised each step of the trip. Our first concern was that the trails might be hard to follow. Nope. They were well marked and even included distances. Our snowshoe was really beautiful. We had great views of Sugarloaf and as we went, the other side of the Carrabasset Valley. The hike was challenging but really manageable. We knew that there would be some sort of lodging at the summit but we were blown away by the beauty of the "hut" that we were to spend our evening in. It was warm and comfortable and the architecture was super thoughtful. We met some great characters on the trails and it was fun getting to know our fellow adventurers over a board game, dinner and fire time. The caretakers cooked us dinner and made us feel right at home. The meal was extraordinary. A combination of talented cooking and eating a meal you feel like you really worked for I think. Our bunk was warm and comfortable enough and we were sad to leave our new friends in the morning. It was so great to get out into the woods without needing to worry about food and tents and all of that stuff. I will be recommending a trip to the Stratton Brook hut as low stress outdoor experience for people who haven't done that much outdoor adventuring, or a nice treat for people who usually backpack and camp. Thanks for the wonderful memories.

Excellent New Experience
January 12, 2016

We recently stayed 3 nights in the Maine Huts -- two at Stratton Brook Hut and one at Poplar Hut. We were completely blown away by the cozy, welcoming nature of the Maine Huts! Hearty and delicious home cooked meals, snowshoes free to use at each hut for short hikes during free time, incredibly interesting and friendly staff, and a very inspiring eco-friendly mission--the Maine Huts are truly a hidden gem that every one should try out (in every season too!). Our family loved being "unplugged" for our time there, and came away with many happy memories--we'll be back

Winter Hike and Overnight at Stratton Brook Hut
December 22, 2015

Just got back from a wonderful weekend stay at Stratton Brook Hut, where my wife and I enjoyed the hut with old friends and made new ones. What a great catalyst for happiness: friends, warm, quality accommodations, good food, an environmental mission and message, and the wonderful staff, represented so ably and friendly by Amanda. The views are among the best in Maine and everyone should support this grand idea-there is everything right about it: education, health, sustainability and friendship.

We stayed at Stratton and Flagstaff. The views and foliage were spectacular. The Hut stays were excellent and the office crew were very helpful

Spur of the moment trip
October 17, 2015

Decided to head out for the long Columbus Day weekend but had not made any specific plans. Decided to try Flagstaff Hut for openings/availability to explore foliage and nearby hiking. A space was available so I headed up and had a great visit. Beautiful foliage and great hiking.
