Fall Foliage has Begun!

Fall leaves
Join us this fall for a guided trip through western Maine's fall foliage. (1920 x 1200)

KINGFIELD, Maine - This is one of the best times of year to enjoy all that Maine Huts & Trails has to offer. The woods take on new beauty and life with the changing of the leaves. Various degrees of crimson, auburn and gold are painted across the trees and ground throughout the months of September and October in western Maine.

The days are seasonably warm and the evenings are cool and crisp, which makes for the perfect weather for paddling, hiking, biking and exploring the huts. Here are a few upcoming events happening this fall:

  • Fall Foliage Volunteer Trail Work Day - happening on Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Maine Huts & Trails is looking for people to get their hands dirty and help out. Work with the trail crew as they clear trails, accomplish seasonal maintenance and get the trails ready for winter. Work will be light duty and include things like raking and hoeing, as well as small brush and branch removal.
  • Getting to Grand Falls Hut has never been so fun. Paddle down the Dead River on this Fully Guided Dead River Paddle Trip. This six-mile, flat-water paddle takes guests down the Upper Dead and on a two-mile hike into the hut. There are two trips left this season: Sept. 26-28 and Oct. 3-5. Costs range from $126-$230 per person and includes three meals per day and lodging.
  • Capture the breathtaking brilliance of Maine's backcountry during peak foliage season with our Maine Fall Foliage Photo Fantasy offered by Ciclismo Classico on Oct. 2-5. Guests will visit undeveloped regions of Flagstaff Lake and paddle by canoe down a six-mile, flat-water stretch of the Dead River at the height of peak color in the Maine woods. The trip is four days and three nights and is $1,195-$1,495 per person.
  • Each year, Maine Huts & Trails holds a barbeque to say thank you to our members and guests. The 8th Annual Fall Barbeque will be held on Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year's menu will feature hearty, home-cooked items like squash soup, homemade bread, pulled pork, baked beans, apple cider and more! Members eat free, non-members pay $15 per adult and $7 per child (anyone 17 and under) - memberships will be available for purchase at the barbeque.

Autumn doesn't last long - so be sure to plan a foliage trip to Maine Huts & Trails before the last leaf drops! For more information, please visit www.MaineHuts.org.
