Fat Bike & Stay

Trip Description

SAMPLE ITINERARY:

Day 1:
Airport Trailhead to Poplar Hut: Start from the Airport Trailhead on Route 27 no later than 11:30 AM. If you've booked a gear shuttle with your reservation, leave your gear in the box at the trailhead, tagged, weighed, and ready to be picked up at noon. The best bike routes to Poplar Hut are Warren's Trail or the Maine Hut Trail. Keep in mind that fat biking is best when conditions are firm- you'll want to either bring or rent snowshoes or Nordic skis if there's fresh powder. Once you arrive at Poplar Hut, no later than 5PM, enjoy a hot shower, a cold beer, and a great dinner.

Day 2:
Poplar Hut to Stratton Brook Hut: Have your bags ready for the gear shuttle by 7:30 AM, then sit down to hearty breakfast before you hit the trail. Grab your bagged trail lunch, and head out to Stratton Brook Hut, about 7 miles away. Stay on the Maine Hut Trail, and stopping for lunch along the way; there's a nice view and picnic table about halfway at Crommett's Overlook. Once you arrive at Stratton Brook Hut, settle in for another great dinner and a relaxing night.

Day 3:
Stratton Brook Hut to the Airport Trailhead: Leave your gear ready for pickup by 7:30 AM, then sit down to another breakfast. You'll also get one more bagged trail lunch for the trip home! From the Hut, you have two trail option to get back to the Airport Trailhead: advanced riders should try Oak Knoll- it's a great single-track downhill with lots of switchbacks. The trail ends on the Narrow Gauge Trail which leads back to the Airport Trailhead. If you're looking for a more relaxed descent, you should take the Maine Hut Trail that you came in on, back to the Airport Trailhead.
