Trip Idea: Hike, Paddle & Stay

Trip Description

SAMPLE ITINERARY: Be sure to reserve your boats when you make your reservation.

Day 1:
Long Falls Dam Rd Trailhead to Flagstaff Hut, 1.8 miles. Arriving at the trailhead no later than 4PM, hike: the Shore Trail to Flagstaff Hut. Check in is at 5PM, dinner is served at 6.

Day 2:
Flagstaff Hut to Grand Falls Hut, 6 miles: With direction from the Hut Staff, check out your canoe or kayak, and paddle from Flagstaff Lake to the Dead River, portaging 1 mile around the dam. When you arrive at the Maine Huts & Trails dock, store your boat and hike to Grand Falls Hut, arriving for check in at 5PM, dinner is at 6.

Day 3:
Enjoy breakfast at the Hut before getting an early start back to Flagstaff Hut. Hike back down to your boats, and paddle the same route back to Flagstaff Hut. The Dead River has a very slow current, hence its name, so it's easy to paddle both ways. If you've booked another night at Flagstaff Hut, settle in for dinner.
