A Letter from the Executive Director (June 2019 Update)
Dear MH&T Community,
Maine Huts and Trails colleagues are hard at work preparing for the upcoming full-service summer/fall season that opens on June 21 at Stratton Brook and Flagstaff Huts. In preparation for opening, this week we are excited to welcome our Summer ’19 hut staff. These are the extraordinary individuals whose enthusiasm and hard work give our huts their own individuality and provide our guests with such memorable experiences.
This year’s hut staff are joining us from places like Peaks Island, Boston, and Telluride, Colorado. In their ranks is an Appalachian Trail through hiker, a former member of the US Ski Team, small business entrepreneurs, and a woman returning for a second season after spending her winter working in movie and television production in NYC. These individuals are an integral part of Maine Huts & Trails’ signature experience. Keep your eyes peeled for an email newsletter coming later this month for the complete introduction of these MH&T superstars!
Our trails are now open for the summer. Patrick Frisbee and Alex Greenleaf are our trail crew this season; please give them a wave when you see them working hard on improving the system. Among other items on their long project list, they will be working closely with partners from the Town of Carrabassett Valley, Carrabassett Region New England Mountain Bike Association (CRNEMBA), and the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center on the ongoing efforts to keep improving the area’s fantastic mountain biking experience.
As we look ahead to this upcoming season, I want to acknowledge the people whose summer plans were affected by our operational changes at Poplar Hut and Grand Falls Huts. To each and every person we talked to, thank you for your understanding and flexibility. There is, indeed, a lot to look forward to at Maine Huts & Trails this summer, and we look forward to welcoming you all back onto our trails and through our doors that you have come to know and love.
