Welcome New Kingfield Staff
Welcome to our new Kingfield office and operations staff!
Sam Shirley — Youth and Community Program Manager
We recently added Sam Shirley as our Youth and Community Manager. His local connections and experience will help grow relationships and opportunities to bring school groups, education programs, summer camps, community non-profits, training, leadership, lifestyle groups and more from Maine and beyond to the huts.
Growing up in northeastern Massachusetts, Sam fell in love with Maine during the summers spent at his family’s camp near Baxter State Park. In 2018, he moved to Farmington to attend college at the University of Maine Farmington, and instantly knew that he wanted to make the area his home. In 2022, he graduated UMF with a degree in Outdoor Recreation Business Administration, and has worked across the region at places including Black Mountain of Maine, Mainely Outdoors, Freeman Ridge Bike Park, and the High Peaks Alliance. During his free time, you will likely find him skiing, biking, camping, or hiking in some remote corner of Maine’s Western Mountains, often with his wife and dog. Sam currently resides in Wilton and is a Registered Maine Recreational Guide, an Eagle Scout, a committee member and volunteer with the High Peaks Alliance, and a member of the Foothills Land Conservancy.
Eliza Quinn — Assistant Winter Operations
Welcome back, Eliza! Formerly a winter hut staff during the 22/23 season, Eliza never left Carrabassett Valley. She will bring her knowledge of working at Huts to the Winter Assistant Operations role, and we are thrilled to welcome her back.
She is originally from Massachusetts but has remained in Western Maine doing seasonal work since her original stint with Maine Huts. On her off days she can be found in the Carrabassett Valley either skiing or mountain biking. Make sure to say hello if you see her on the trails!
Sami Hotchkiss — Guest Experience Manager
Sami grew up in New Hampshire, where she loved exploring outdoor recreation opportunities with her family and friends. These adventures sparked her passion for the outdoor industry, and she quickly realized she wanted to build a career doing what she loves. From 2019 to 2023, she attended UMF, where she graduated with a degree in Outdoor Recreation Business Administration. Her time at UMF helped her dive deeper into the outdoor industry, especially in Western Maine. Now, Maine feels like home to Sami, who happily resides in Farmington. On her days off, you might catch her mountain biking, skiing, paddling, fly fishing, hiking, or just exploring the area!
