Recent Bridge and Trail Repair

December 10, 2024

The relentless summer storms can be tough on our trail systems, especially when it comes to maintaining safety and accessibility for all users. The section of winter-use only trail between Poplar Stream and Flagstaff Lake Huts took quite a hit, particularly with the large bridge being dislodged from the embankment.

Equipped with the mini excavator and work gloves, the operations team of Seth and Eliza committed to multiple days of intensive repair work. The duo worked diligently to restore the bridge, ensuring it was safe for winter travel and snowmobile grooming.

The trail is in the lowlands between the East Flagstaff Road crossing and the Yurt Trail. Heavy rain storms lifted the bridge and caused it to float askew. The operations team went in and started the dismantling of the bridge timbers.

The timber was able to be reused, so the bridge just needed to be rebuilt. A combo of machine and manual labor took the old bridge apart and started the building of the new one.

We’re excited to announce the completion of our new bridge! It spans a longer distance for our snow groomers and winter trail users. The timing couldn’t have been better, as it’s finished just in time for the snowfall. We encourage all winter visitors to take a moment to appreciate the hard work that our dedicated operations staff put into this project.
