Maintenance Supervisor

The Maintenance Supervisor is a member of the organization’s field operations team ensuring MH&T’s facilities, systems, equipment, vehicles, and services operate at the highest level of reliability and efficiency. Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining hut access, buildings, facilities, and systems; overseeing the operation, and maintenance of all Maine Huts & Trails equipment and vehicles; and ensuring overall safe and reliable field services in the pursuit of providing accessible locations for recreation and education of our guests. The position will also work with organization leadership, staff, and partners to help support our sustainability goals by improving facilities’ systems and equipment over time. This position will work primarily out of the Kingfield, ME office but will require significant field time. The position requires an organized, hands-on leader willing to work long hours and irregular schedules as required.

Hut Crew

Want to spend the summer living, working, and playing in one of the greatest outdoor recreation destinations on the East Coast? If so, then we've got the job for you!

Hut crew are responsible for providing a welcoming, friendly, and clean environment for overnight guests and day visitors at Maine Huts & Trails backcountry huts. Hut crew undertake a variety of responsibilities on rotational basis, including front desk, food preparation, housekeeping and custodial duties, and assisting with operation and periodic maintenance of green energy systems.

Successful applicants will have a proven commitment to customer service, the ability to work as part of a team, and the ability to maintain high standards in an isolated setting. Food service, hospitality, or related experience is preferred. This position is a unique opportunity for someone interested in recreational or outdoor hospitality, green building design and operation, conservation education, or similar fields.

Hut Master

The Hut Master oversees daily operations at the hut and ensures high standards of customer service. In addition to performing all aspects of the hut crew position, the hut master is responsible for leading and motivating staff and volunteers, creating and implementing daily schedules, performing daily facilities inspections, managing inventories of supplies and merchandise, and overseeing routine maintenance of the hut.

Successful applicants will be personable, effective problem-solvers capable of maintaining high standards in an isolated environment. This position requires strong leadership skills and supervisory experience in the food service or hospitality industry.

Operations Support Staff

The Operations Support Staff is a crucial part of the Maine Huts & Trails team. With so many moving parts of this organization, it is of the upmost importance to have a support crew that is willing to go the extra mile to help our team accomplish our goals. We at Maine Huts & Trails are looking for someone who is able to assist the Huts Manager in the daily operations, shuttle gear and supplies to and from the huts/trailheads, and be willing to be a part of a dynamic team dedicated to providing a world class product to our guests.

Trail Crew

Want to spend the summer living, working, and playing in one of the greatest outdoor recreation destinations on the East Coast? If so, then we've got the job for you!

The trail crew is responsible for building and maintaining multi-use, backcountry trails along the Maine Hut Trail from Carrabassett Valley to West Forks. Projects typically involve annual trail maintenance like mowing, building new trail, bog bridging, maintaining existing ski trail bridges, and installing stone retaining walls, and are accomplished with the help of partnering organizations and volunteer efforts.

Successful candidates will have at least one full season of backcountry trail construction and maintenance experience. They will each possess initiative, independence, be team-oriented, and have strong map and GPS navigational skills. They will also have experience operating motorized equipment, demonstrate maintenance and safe use of hand tools, be attentive to detail, and be able to balance quality with efficiency.
