Guest Services Representative

The Guest Services Representative will join the Maine Huts & Trails team to assist with guest inquiries, trip planning, and hut reservations in an effort to set the stage for a high-quality guest service experience. Suitable candidates will have an outgoing personality and the ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person. Candidates must also possess excellent organizational and problem solving skills. This position requires exceptional computer skills and the ability to effectively multi-task in a dynamic office environment. Experience in Customer Service and/or Reservations required. Experience in hospitality services is desirable. We are looking for a team player who is self-motivated, results-oriented, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that all guests have the information they need to have a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience.

Hut Staff: Now accepting applications for summer/fall '17 & winter '17-'18 

The 2017 summer season runs from June 23rd to October 23rd, except at Grand Falls Hut which closes October 9th. Winter season dates are December 15th- March 28th at Poplar, Stratton Brook, and Flagstaff Huts; January 12th-March 14th at Grand Falls Hut. Qualified applicants may be considered for longer-term positions.

Hut staff will be expected to train roughly one week prior to the season, and stay a few days after closing for exit interviews, hut closing procedures and a post season celebration.

Priority will be given to qualified candidates able to work the full season. On-site accommodation and food are provided for all positions. The standard schedule is 10 days on, 4 days off. The daily work schedule is determined by Hut Masters, with a variety of morning, mid-day, and evening shifts.

Hut Master (Accepting applications for winter '17-'18 only)

The Hut Master oversees daily operations at the hut and ensures high standards of customer service. In addition to performing all aspects of the hut crew position, the hut master is responsible for leading and motivating staff and volunteers, creating and implementing daily schedules, performing daily facilities inspections, managing inventories of supplies and merchandise, and overseeing routine maintenance of the hut. Applicants should be personable, effective problem-solvers capable of maintaining high standards in an isolated environment. This position requires strong leadership skills and supervisory experience in the food service or hospitality industry.

Hut Crew (Hiring now for summer '17, accepting applications for winter '17-'18)

Hut crew are responsible for providing a welcoming, friendly, and clean environment for overnight guests and day visitors at Maine Huts & Trails’ backcountry huts. Hut crew undertake a variety of responsibilities on a rotational basis, including front desk management, food preparation, housekeeping and custodial duties, and assisting with operation and periodic maintenance of green energy systems.

The right person for this position will have a proven commitment to customer service, the ability to work as part of a team, and the ability to maintain high standards in an isolated setting. Food service, hospitality, or related experience is preferred. This position is a unique opportunity for someone interested in recreational or outdoor hospitality, green building design and operation, conservation education, or similar fields.

Hut Cook (Accepting applications for winter '17-'18 only)

The hut cook is responsible for high-quality food service at the hut. This includes preparing family-style breakfast and dinner for up to 48 guests, and serving soups, sandwiches, breads, baked goods, and lunch specials. Responsibilities include supervision and training of staff, implementation of safety and sanitation practices, managing inventory, controlling food waste, and maintaining kitchen equipment. This position requires experience in all aspects of kitchen operations. The Hut Cook works with a small team to deliver all aspects of guest services, and must be willing to go the extra mile to ensure a special and memorable guest experience. Supervisory experience is preferred. The hut cook will be required to obtain a Certified Food Protection Manager certificate prior to commencement of employment.

Volunteer Caretaker

Self-service season runs from October 24th-January 10th at Stratton Brook, Poplar, and Flagstaff Huts; and October 9th-December 13th at Grand Falls Hut.

Maine Huts & Trails is seeking volunteer hut caretakers during self-service season. Caretakers live at the huts for a period of two to twelve weeks, with room and board provided. This is a unique opportunity to live rent-free and off-the-grid, with a recreational playground at your fingertips! Kayaking, canoeing, biking, hiking, and camping are right out your door. Caretakers welcome visitors, and must be attentive to the cleanliness and maintenance of the hut. The caretaker will ideally be an outgoing person who enjoys sustainable living and outdoor recreation and appreciates the Maine outdoors.
