Testimonial: What Fun
This was my husband and my first trip to a hut. We didn't really know what to expect but we figured that we could rough it through just about anything for a night. We continued to be pleasantly surprised each step of the trip. Our first concern was that the trails might be hard to follow. Nope. They were well marked and even included distances. Our snowshoe was really beautiful. We had great views of Sugarloaf and as we went, the other side of the Carrabasset Valley. The hike was challenging but really manageable. We knew that there would be some sort of lodging at the summit but we were blown away by the beauty of the "hut" that we were to spend our evening in. It was warm and comfortable and the architecture was super thoughtful. We met some great characters on the trails and it was fun getting to know our fellow adventurers over a board game, dinner and fire time. The caretakers cooked us dinner and made us feel right at home. The meal was extraordinary. A combination of talented cooking and eating a meal you feel like you really worked for I think. Our bunk was warm and comfortable enough and we were sad to leave our new friends in the morning. It was so great to get out into the woods without needing to worry about food and tents and all of that stuff. I will be recommending a trip to the Stratton Brook hut as low stress outdoor experience for people who haven't done that much outdoor adventuring, or a nice treat for people who usually backpack and camp. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
