High Peaks Recreation Rangers

August 12, 2025

Over the past three weeks, the High Peaks Recreation Rangers completed maintenance and improvement work across the northern and central parts of our trail system. Coordinated by the High Peaks Alliance, the Rec. Rangers are a dedicated team of stewards working across Franklin and Somerset Counties to maintain trails, campsites, and public lands. The crew of four rangers this summer split their time between projects on lands managed by the High Peaks Alliance, Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust, Maine Huts & Trails, and the Bureau of Public Lands.

The crew cut back overgrowth and cleared blowdowns on the Sticky Trail, Warren’s Trail, Larry’s Trail, and sections of the Maine Hut Trail. On the Shore Trail, near Flagstaff Lake Hut, they replaced bog bridges with new cedar bridging that should last for many years to come. Additionally, on the Maine Hut Trail just south of the Halfway Yurt, they completed tread work in eroded areas and replaced two failing culverts.

We thank the Rec. Rangers for all of their hard work and encourage you to check out the new and improved sections of trail! We can’t wait to have them back next summer!
