Meet Our Winter Staff
Each winter season, we welcome a variety of staff from all over the country. This year is no exception! We have two returning staff from summer and last winter, plus 10 new faces. Staff hail from Maine, Pennsylvania, and more. We are thrilled to bring this diverse group together.

Erin
Erin is excited to spend the winter working and exploring from Stratton Brook Hut. In the summer seasons, she works as an Outward Bound instructor, taking students on backpacking and canoeing expeditions. In her free time, she enjoys any outdoor activity, especially swimming, running, and skiing.

Joe
Howdy! Joe here—a native Mainer from Yarmouth. This winter, you’ll catch me at Stratton Brook Hut. When I’m not there, I’m busy honing my fly-fishing skills or adventuring in the mountains, skiing, or biking. My dream car is a Subaru Baja. Can’t wait to meet you all—think snow!
Evan
Salutations, my name is Evan. I am from Pennsylvania but was most recently working in high-end construction in the Adirondack region. Most days you’ll probably find me walking about aimlessly with binoculars on my hip, aiming to find what wintering birds remain in these northern woods. The mustache and black-market (poplar stream hut-barber) mullet are new. We’ll have to see if they last the season.
Sierra
Hello, my name is Sierra. I’m from Northampton Massachusetts, and I enjoy riding horses when I’m not living in the woods. I hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2023, and part of the Pacific Crest Trail this past year. When I’m not out exploring trails near the huts, you’ll probably catch me reading, playing board games, or working on a puzzle.

Maya
Hi, I’m Maya! This is my second season at Maine Huts and Trails. Last year I was the manager at Flagstaff Lake Hut and I am excited to be surrounded by the waterfalls of Poplar Stream Hut this winter. I am from Emmaus, PA but have been up in New England for the past year or so. After my Flagstaff winter last year, I thru hiked the Appalachian Trail, with only one bout of Lyme disease! When I am not working in a hut, you can find me knitting by the fire, frolicking outside, or keeping the inter-hut dessert competition alive.

Brian
My name is Brian, and I love spending time in forests. I really like Pine trees and don’t think I could settle down anywhere permanently if the area didn’t have some beautiful pine thickets. I also like pine needle tea, very high in vitamin C.
Cece
My name is Cece!! I am the token hut baby. I’m from Portland Maine and am taking a gap year before heading to Bates in lovely Lewiston! I’m fresh off an adventure woofing in Hawaii and backpacking in New Zealand. I am so happy to settle into the woods for the winter. I love playing ultimate frisbee, pond hockey, hiking, sewing, dancing, singing, upcycling, doing yoga, and hanging outside. In the hut you’ll find me yapping up a storm, starting fires for my hut manager, and crafting. On my off days, I’ll be snowboarding at Sugarloaf, heading to Portland, or lurking the trails around Poplar 🙂
Alexis
My name is Alexis. I’m enjoying spending my winter connecting with the trees, stars, woodland creatures, and humans in the woods at Poplar. I graduated last year from Bowdoin with my degree in Earth & Oceanographic Science and Dance. I’m passionate about the work of rekindling human connection with the natural world. I love nordic skiing, plant medicine, outdoor improv dancing, writing, reading, and mindful movement. You probably can catch me in Poplar wearing a funky hat and some snazzy earrings.

My name is Elle McCallum from Amherst Massachusetts but now I just live in the woods. I Love to cook and to be outside!

Ben
My name is Ben Parsons, and I’m from Greencastle, Indiana. This is my second season at Flagstaff Hut! I’m excited for lots of skiing, good food, interesting people, and cozy moments by the fire this winter.
Emily
I am from Ithaca, NY, and I have been working seasonally in Montana, Wyoming, New Hampshire, and Maine for the past few years. In the summer I lead the trail crew at Baxter State Park and I love hiking, lying in the dirt, eating jelly beans, and moving big rocks.
