Fall Volunteer Groups

November 10, 2025

We would like to thank the two volunteer groups that we had stay with us this fall to help get our huts and trails ready for winter!

On the last weekend in October, UMaine Farmington’s Mainely Outdoors group headed to Stratton Brook Hut to get firewood stacked. After hiking up the hut, the small crew got started on stacking wood in the hut’s basement, on the side porch, and outside of the main hall. In total, they stacked about 5 cords of wood during the course of the afternoon! Mainely Outdoors has a long history of firewood stacking at the huts, and we were glad to have them back this year!

Falmouth High School’s outing club join us at Flagstaff Lake Hut during the first weekend of November for their semiannual volunteer hut trip. One group of students spent the afternoon stacking about 8 cords of wood outside of the hut. Another group of students hiked about 4 miles along the shore of Flagstaff Lake to remove trail signs from a closed section of trail. They removed 8 larger signs and numerous smaller ones. Falmouth High School always brings a hard working crew, and we are already looking forward to having them back in May!
