Novice Ski to Flagstaff Lake Hut
This past Saturday, Maine Huts & Trails partnered with Skowhegan Outdoors for a novice ski to Flagstaff Lake Hut. Despite cold temperatures, there was a great turnout of skiers. The crew met up at the Flagstaff Trailhead and headed in on the groomed Maine Hut Trail.

Trails were in absolutely fantastic condition. The recent 12″+ of fluffy snow we received packed down to a nice, smooth surface. The group set out together on the groomed cross-country trails, enjoying smooth skiing and good conversation as they moved through the winter landscape.

Hot bowls of soup and grilled sandwiches for lunch rewarded the group upon arrival at Flagstaff Lake Hut. Soups of the day was vegan chili and broccoli cheddar, with a biscuit on the side. Grilled cheese sandwiches were made to order to warm the soul. All of our huts always offer free cups of tea and coffee, everyday.

After a warmup at the hut, the crew hit the trail. For a change of pace, part of the group returned on the backcountry Shore Trail. The Shore Trail hugs the coastline of Flagstaff Lake, and offered an ungroomed ski option with scenic overlooks of the lake and the Bigelow Mountain Range.

Looking to join us for a cross country ski? We have two other free programs coming up: An advanced ski to Stratton Brook Hut on February 21st, and an intermediate ski to Poplar Stream Hut on March 7th. Visit the event page to sign up and register!
