Testimonial: Wiscasset Middle High School Outing Club

“I am one of three Wiscasset Middle High School Outing Club Advisors and I met Sam Shirley of the Maine Huts and Trails organization at a Teens to Trails leadership event in Sept. of 2025. Leslie Trundy, Outing Club Advisor from Morse High School and I spoke with Sam about our goal of doing a trip with both of our clubs. Sam suggested we rent one of the huts through Maine Huts and Trails and let us know he had a grant that could help us with funding!… WHAT?!!! The die was cast! Fast forward to June of 2026….We brought both clubs to Flagstaff Lake Hut and enjoyed swimming, fishing, hiking, canoeing, campfire and …quiet, resting time. OF COURSE it rained! (it’s an Outing Club trip) but, WE WERE INSIDE and not drowning in tents. The kitchen and facilities were amazing but the staff of Emma and Sofia were absolutely wonderful. There were no cell phones! We were able to fulfill a goal of doing a trip with both high schools with the support of Maine Huts and Trails. Thank you Sam, Emma and Sofia!
