Poplar Hut is the easiest hut to access from the Maine Huts & Trails headquarters in Kingfield. The trip starts in Carrabassett Valley at the Airport Trailhead. Cross the Carrabassett River and turn east paralleling the Narrow Gauge Trail. The path is on land owned by the Penobscot Indian Nation and leased by Maine Huts & Trails. Slide across the Carriage Road and follow the glistening Poplar Stream. The trail eventually starts a gentle ascent across the slope up toward Poplar Hut. This hut is a great day-trip destination. Winter skiers have a variety of terrain to hone their skills, while snowshoers can access side trails for a waterfall view. Fat biking is also a great option with so many choices for day trips on surrounding trails.
Poplar provides easy access to 10s of miles of single track fat biking trails in Carrabassett Valley.
Lunch is open to day visitors from 12-2PM on Saturdays & Sundays during full service winter season; see more here >>
Maine Huts & Trails would like to offer its special thanks to the New Balance Foundation for making this hut possible.
