Best trailhead for: Poplar Stream Hut
The Airport Trailhead is centrally located to our Poplar Stream and Stratton Brook Huts, plus acts as the entry point to the east end of the Narrow Gauge Pathway. It is located at the western end of the Carrabassett Valley Airport runway, and is tucked behind the Sugar Bowl restaurant. The trailhead has a large parking lot, privy and the winter gear shed for shuttles for Stratton Brook Hut and Poplar Stream Hut.
The Poplar side of the Maine Hut Trails (Airport, Poplar Stream, Larry’s and Warren’s Trails) curves to the right after crossing the river bridge, and the left turn takes you onto the Narrow Gauge and Crommett’s Overlook Trail to Stratton Brook Hut. Winter guests looking to start and finish a two hut trip in the same place should park here.
