Answers to Some of Your Questions

In light of news about COVID-19 and our opeartions, you may have some questions. Below are answers to some of them, but please feel free to contact us with any other questions you may have that are not listed here.

Q. Are the huts open?

A. Currently, we are renting Flagstaff Hut to groups for the fall of 2021. All other huts (Poplar, Stratton Brook & Grand Falls remain closed during this time). Water, bathrooms, and bunkrooms are not available at this time at Poplar, Stratton Brook or Grand Falls. We apologize for any inconvenience.

It is our ambition to be open this '21-'22 winter season with a combination of self-service and full-service experiences at Flagstaff, Poplar & Stratton Brook Hut. Full Service days evenings will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

Grand Falls will remain closed this winter season with anticipation to open back up in the winter of 2022.

Q. Are the trails open?

A. Yes, The Maine Hut Trail and connecting trails are open and are in good condition. Please check our our  website and Facebook page for trail & grooming updates. The bridges along the Dead River stretch of the MH Trail to Grand Falls Hut are in poor shape. Use caution if using this trail. We do not advise traveling on this trail at this time. Plans to repair and upgrade the bridges in 2022 are underway.

Q. Can I book a fall/winter reservation?

A. We are taking group rentals only for Flagstaff Hut at this time. Please contact Kevin Mitchell, Director of operations if you are interested in renting the full hut. It is our ambition to be open for the '21-'22 winter season at Stratton Brook, Flagstaff and Poplar Hut. Reservations will be open in October for Winter reservations.  Please keep checking back for information about our winter season or click here to sign up to receive email updates.

Q. I have a gift certificate, can I still use it?

A. Gift certificates will be honored for future reservations. Gift certificates may all also be applied to retail items in our online store in our Kingfield office.

Q. Are dogs allowed?

A. Dogs are permitted on the trails from April 15th until November 30th, and must be on a leash or under voice command at all times. Be sure your dog is safe during hunting season by providing a blaze orange bandana or vest. To respect and protect winter wildlife, and to preserve the groomed trail surface for skiers, dogs are not permitted on the MH&T trails during the winter. Dogs are not allowed inside any of the Huts.

Q. I want to make a donation, how do I do that?

A. Donations can be made online through this form or by mailing a check to Maine Huts & Trails at 496C Main Street, Kingfield, ME 04947. If you are interested in making a stock gift, please call us at 207-265-2400 or email us at info@mainehuts.org for information on how to do that.
