First of many trips
March 27, 2015

I brought a group of students from my new school and we had a wonderful time staying 4 nights at Flagstaff Hut. The accommodations were comfortable, the staff helpful, friendly and great with the kids. . . the setting obviously beautiful. We covered a lot of miles on our snowshoes and are already planning our next trip for the fall.

CRCS Trip
March 23, 2015

CRCS took 20 students on an overnight to the Flagstaff Hut. One group snowshoed in while another group chose to cross country ski to the Yurt and then to the Hut. We checked on the wood duck boxes that we previously built and placed in the cove. It was exciting to see that two of them had been occupied! We also received a history lesson from Larry Warren on how Carrabassett Valley and MH&T came to be. Thanks Larry! As always the food was spectacular! Thanks to Carrabassett Coffee who sponsored the trip, Merrie, Jason, and Larry for the educational portion, and staff for the delicious food. Family Winter Hut Trip
March 23, 2015

The Maine Huts & Trails winter experience has now become an annual family adventure for us. The huts are the ideal destination for people looking to get outdoors and 'away from it all' in the winter, without having to pack/carry and cook their own food, or pitch a tent in the snow. :) The huts are immaculately clean, warm, inviting and a great place to meet new people or simply relax. The food is also amazing, especially for those of us who truly appreciate locally-sourced, whole-food kinds of meals--- and more food than we could ask for. I can't imagine ANYBODY going away hungry. The trails are also well-maintained with incredible views and range from kid-friendly easy trails to challenging ascents. For XC skiing, snowshoeing or fat-biking, MH&T is the place to be when winter settles into the Maine woods.

Great overall experience. Hut staff and hut infrastructure were fantastic. My only suggestions is to please please build a wood fired sauna at each hut!

10 for 10

On a scale of one to ten(10 being top notch) I would rate my Maine Huts and Trails get away a 10. My husband and I and 8 others(some we knew well. Others not at all) met at the Airport trailhead to spend the next 4 nights and 5 days in what turned out to be an experience full of laughter, glorious outdoor activity, gorgeous scenery, warm and comfortable lodging and meals that were not only healthy but expertly prepared rivaling most excellent restaurants. This was our first time here and it far exceeded our expectations. Granted, our little group of 10 from 4 different States(mostly connected through canoe racing in NY) really hit it off but the crew at all the Huts were the catalyst for an atmosphere of relaxation, friendliness and tolerance. Hats off to these Hut Angels. The trails were in great shape and I enjoyed the challenge of skiing everyday for many miles of up and down along rivers and lakes and in the woods. We saw a Bald Eagle flying over the Dead River and deer leap across the trail in front of us;the side trips to the waterfalls a must see. Sure, we had some weather related trail conditions that were not ideal and a less than hot shower at one hut but the Maine Huts and Trails experience is one I will remember with a huge smile.
