Flagstaff Hut
July 22, 2017

The huts were beautiful, the staff was great, we had a blast. The only suggestion we had is that the trail map can be misguiding for mountain biking. The hemlock trail is listed as a hike/bike trail and it is not really a bike trail. A few other bikers we met made the mistake of taking it.

Night with the Stars

Fantastic evening at Poplar Hut with chef/author Christine Rudalevige! Lovely dinner and good conversation with old and new friends! Summer is a wonderful time to visit this part of Maine. Excellent experience with both reservation staff and Hut crew. I've already booked another visit to both Flagstaff and Grand Falls later this month.

Excursion to Grand Falls Hut
June 28, 2017

Confidence building trip...We learned a lot about how much we can handle when confronted with less than perfect weather. We faced some unexpected, whitecaps, headwinds and rain. This simply made arriving at the magnificent Grand Falls Hut all the more special. Staff at the hut went above expectations to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The food was delicious, varied and nutritious. The falls were spectacular! The river was calm as glass on our return trip. I highly recommend a paddle/hike to Grand Falls Hut.

Fantastic and Challenging
June 28, 2017

Our annual girls outing took us to Grand Falls Hut this year. The hike and paddle made this trip unique for us. All was do able although the take out was a bit challenging. Hut was beautiful but the highlight of our trip besides the falls was Emily our host at the hut. What an amazingly talented woman she was. Passionate about the hut system especially her hut. Outstanding cook and so knowledgeable about the hut system and area. Just loved to listen to her. Her tour of the hut only furthered my realization that she needed to know much more than cooking and greeting guests. She needed to be fully able to operate complicated systems - solar, wood furnace and toilet system. WOW. Impressive.

Peaceful Luxury

I visited the hut in the self-serve season with my sister and daughter. We were the only visitors along with the gracious volunteer host and spent a cozy evening curled up in front of the fire with books. There is a good view nearby, great facilities, and very reasonable prices before the full service season gets going.

Kennebec Montessori School

We visited the Flagstaff hut with 35 1-5 graders and eight chaperones and had a WONDERFUL trip. The kitchen was well stocked to cook for the group, the facilities were beautiful, clean, and spacious. Merrie and Mike helped us plan, find things, and make sure we were situated. Merrie was essential to planning our trip - from suggesting a hut with a plausible hike in with our group, to suggesting we give lessons on packing, to checking in on trail conditions; she was fantastic! Mike stayed on hand throughout our stay, enjoying meals with us, showing us camp wood, and helping us feel welcome. Everyone loved the freedom, the space, the views, and the game room! It was wonderful to give the children an off the grid experience where we could explore, build, and camp in a safe, clean, and comfortable environment. Many families are planning a follow up visit and I am trying to figure out how we can come again! I would recommend visiting over and over again - a really wonderful experience!
